The race for supremacy is in full swing at the CES 2008. Each company is playing its best cards to woo the consumers and bag the badge of honor. Samsung also played its trump today, when it introduced the NV24HD digital camera that boasts of HD recording capability. The compact camera can record video in 720p (1280×720) resolution at the rate of 30 frames per second! That’s quite impressive! But that’s not all.

It even allows the user to stream and watch the contents of the camera on any HDTV using the optional HDMI cradle. The NV24HD features a 10 megapixel, 24mm lens with 3.6X optical zoom and comes equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Digital Image Stabilization (DIS). The Samsung NV24HD will carry a modest price tag of $349.

Sony’s new Cyber-shot cameras detect a smile and automatically takes a photo. Sony has displayed its new Cyber-shot DSC-T200 and Cyber-shot DSC-T70 at the Sony Dealer Convention in Tokyo. Both the new Cybershot DSC-T200 and DSC-T70 models have a ’smile shutter’ function which combines other functions like face detection, image stabilization and high sensitivity to low levels of light.

The new Cybershot DSC-T200 camera comes with touch screen which allows users to select the subject to focus on and allows you to choose where you want to zoom the camera. The DSC-T200 comes with 3.5 inch viewing screen and a 5x zoom. With the Cybershot DSC-T200 camera, you can take 8 megapixel photos.

While the DSC-T70 camera is featured with a 3.0 inch screen and 3x zoom and comes with silver, black, white and pink. The other features of the DSC-T70 camera are given below:

1) 8 megapixel resolution
2) 3x optical zoom with image stabilization
3) 3 inch, touch sensitive LCD
4) 9-point AF
5) Movie capture up to 640×480 resolution at 30fps
6) HD output
7) Lithium-ion battery

The latest offering from Olympus is not only shockproof and waterproof to a depth of 10m but is also equipped with TruePic III image processor. Apart from that, both the models include revolutionary face detection and shadow adjust technology. As evident from the name itself, digital cameras of Tough series are designed in such a way that they can take daily punishment.

With the new function, you do not need a PC to print photos. Images can be directly transferred to a printer for printing. You can bypass a computer with this function. When you connect the camera to a printer, print options are displayed on the LCD screen. You can make the necessary changes and print the images. Now that’s cool, ain’t it? Other notable features include a lowly 3x optical zoom and Shake-free image mode.

There is not much information about the release or the pricing. However, we believe the DC E720 would not pinch your pockets since it is a camera with basic features, except for PictBridge.

Apparently, this camera would incorporate a 10.1 MP CMOS sensor and a 2.5 inch LCD. For dust-free photography, it would feature an anti-dust lens. Additionally, like its predecessors it would incorporate a Digic II processor for precision photgraphy.

The company is however worried that this report would affect the sales of its popular 30D. And the report that the camera would be out in September has been dismissed by Canon as just a wild speculation. Speculation or no speculation, photography buffs would certainly look forward to the new 40D priced at (again a speculation!!!) $1300. And if you ask where the pic has come from, all we can say is it is just a figment of imagination. Whatever be the case, sit tight ‘coz the 40D is certainly on its way, sooner or later.

Sony is once again in trouble with its digital cameras. The company has just announced a global recall of 416,000 Cyber-shot DSC-T5 digital cameras to rectify bottom plates because the case can bend and can turn into an edge that can cut or scratch the user’s hands.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T5 was announced couple of years ago and offers 5.1 megapixel resolution, a 2.5-inch LCD display, 3× optical zoom, sliding lens cover, and aluminum bodies available in black, silver, gold, red, and champagne colors.

This recall will replace the bottom casing of affected cameras absolutely free and according to the Sony’s spokesperson statement in Tokyo, the shortcoming was noticed by the company after a month ago when the camera was launched. Complaints from about 30 customers of Japan and of other markets also reported the problem, with small cuts or scratches.

According to Sony, approximately 350,000 Cyber-shot DSC-T5 cameras are sold in the U.S., Europe, and China whereas almost 66,000 are sold in Japan. Affected camera model and serial numbers comes between 3500001 and 3574100. U.S. customers can report to Sony’s support Web site.

The thin i335 has been designed specifically for Nextel.
