Remember the heftily-priced Leica M8 digicams, which were recalled earlier owing to some glitches. Well, the company has now released a firmware update, which they claim to solve the problem of M8’s high sensitivity to infrared light. Initially, Leica offered UV/IR filter for all lenses to sort out the problem but that led to the tribulations with the color cast of wide-angle lenses from 16-35mm. The new firmware upgrade is claimed to address this very problem. What else can we say other than ‘Better late than never.’

Sometime back, may be say a decade, people used to converse about the surveillance cameras. It was opined that such cameras would keep a proper vigilance over the area they are given charge of. The time has come now! Such CCTV cameras are not the talk of the past but are here to be dealt with the odds. British government has already deployed such closed circuit cameras in order to keep vigilance and proper traffic sense on the busiest of the busiest streets. Such CCTV cameras may pose a lot of jeopardy for the unlawful and anti-social elements. Middlesbrough one of the most talked about towns in UK has been the proud owner of adorning such high quality surveillance systems like the CCTVs on its streets. And the government opines that after the deployment of such cameras the crime rate in the city has decreased to the level quite negligible. The government seems to be planning a campaign regarding the awareness towards such anti-crime systems.

Such anti theft systems also talk to you and rather make you aware of the crime you are incorporating. They make you aware of the deed which you are doing and that may be against the law. They make you aware of the various crimes, may be petty, like littering the town streets, unlawfully acting on the streets and even getting involved in sex in the public or open crowded places. Such CCTVs are a must have for every government round the globe for sure!
They can certainly be termed as the Robots who are keeping their eye, oh sorry their lenses, on us.

Since last December, Panasonic has targeted the consumer market by launching its 3CCD HDC-SC1 and HDC-DX1 high-definition camcorders and has now come up with its successors the HDC-SC3 and HDC-DX3. Both the SD3 and DX3 fully support H.264 and will capture video at resolutions up to 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, an increase over the 1,440 by 1,080 resolution offered by the earlier models.

Both these successors have the same capabilities as their predecessors but cam be distinguished by the media they use to store the video as the SD3 stores the video to SD card and the DX3 writes it to DVD discs in AVCHD format. Both these models have a much-improved video compression as 4 GB SD card can hold about 40 minutes of high-resolution video, while an 8 CM DVD can hold 14 minutes of high-def video per side. Apart from these features, these models carry the same specs as the previous models.

Both models will be released in Japan on April 25 with no plans for an international release yet. The SC3 and DX3 will retail for approximately $1,275 and $1,190 respectively.
