Canon, one of the tough contendor of the digicam industry, has revealed two new HDV camcorders, has announced two new HDV camcorders, the XH G1 and XH A1 (Priced at $6999 and $3999 respectively). Though both share the same 20x zoom lens, Super Range Optical Image Stabilization, 60i, 24F, 30F frame rates and highly customizable image controls, the only difference is that XH G1 features a jackpack that offers HD-SDI/SD-SDI Output with embedded audio and Genlock Input. These models are probably designed to compete with the Sony FX1 camcorder that features AVCHD technology. Sony is surely going to feel the heat.
Canon is rolling out camcorders, one after another. After introducing the HDV camcorders, XH G1 and XH A1, canon is now back into the scene with its consumer oriented high-definition camcorder, HV10, in order to compete the Sony HDR-HC3. The technical specification that makes it different from all the earlier camcorders is the introduction of a 1/2.7′ CMOS chip that offers noise reduction. Moreover, the CMOS technology helps to capture stills up to 2MP while simultaneously shooting video. The HV10 boasts DIGIC DV II processor, Super Range optical image stabilization and enjoys the Instant AF system that makes use of an external sensor to boost the focusing accuracy. Other features include HV10 include a video light, histogram display, zebra patterns, and grid markers. It uses a Canon HD video lens, F1.8 – F3.0, with a 37mm filter diameter. The fully-packed HV10 camcorder is priced at $1299. No words on the availability.
Canon is rolling fairly deep with its new DC22 DVD camcorder that offers dual layer recording to DVD-R DL discs and capacity to store 108 minutes video recording. Most of the people must be thinking about HV10 consumer-oriented camcorder, but still, the new DC22 is worth mentioning. The 2.7′ LCD camcorder integrates Level Shot and Smooth Zoom to specify the zoom speed. It would really face the heat in the market as Sony is there with the AVCHD high definition HDV camcorder, HDR-UX1 and Panasonic has a vast range of camcorders with their latest VDR-D100 with 20x optical zoom. The Canon DC22 features a 1/3.9″ CCD, which has 2,200,000 gross pixels with 1,380,000 effective pixels in 16:9 mode with IS on, 10x Optical zoom and RGB primary color filter. The DC22 improves on its predecessors with a 2.7″ widescreen LCD. The DC22 model includes high resolution widescreen 16:9 recording, which allow users to enjoy a full-screen image on their widescreen TV with vivid detail and clarity. Worth a buy, the Canon DC22 DVD camcorder will be available at the end of August 2006 for an estimated price of $699.

After the announcement of APO 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM lens, Sigma has introduced yet another lens for digital cameras and SLRs, the new 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye lens to allow the enthusiasts to do proper justice with their photography. I am impressed with the wide-angle viewing of 180-degrees when mounted on any 35mm digital camera. The creativity comes along with its unique fisheye design. Its multi-layer lens and Special Low Dispersion glass compensates for the flare, chromatic and color anomaly. The speciality of this lens is its usage for scientific purposes like vegetation distribution of the rain forest awning. The brand new 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye lens fits Sigma, Nikon, Canon, Sony and Pentax AF lens mounts. No info about price and availability.
Canon has added the new EOS 400D DSLR to its digital SLR line-up. The camera boasts 2.5-inch LCD, 1.6x focal length and a striking 10.1-megapixel CMOS. In addition, Canon 400D offers the users pre-defined settings like portrait, landscape etc. The new feature that caught my eye is its Dust removal system that removes all the dust by emitting ultrasound vibrations. The camera can shoot pictures at a fast rate of 3 frames per second. Its swift USB 2.0 port lets you print your images directly to a PictBridge printer. For now, Canon is quiet on the matter of pricing anad availability of the new Canon EOS 400D digital SLR.
Canon is popping out tempting DSLRs one by one like bunnies. The new Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi continues to carry the bequest of Canon digital cameras. Like the Canon EOS 400D, the Rebel XTi comes with a dazzling 10.1 megapixel resolution to mesmerize the professionals with crisp quality pictures. Other key specs include high-precision 9-point autofocus, CMOS sensor for quality photos and noise reduction and varied range of ISO settings. The most prominent feature of the EOS Rebel XTi is its Self Cleaning Sensor Unit and EOS Integrated Cleaning System. Its two-teired dust removal technology removes the high-resolution dust spots while the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit features a low pass filter on CMOS sensor that is tied to the Ultrasonic Vibrating Unit. This ultrasonic dust-shake comes into action as soon as the camera is powered on or off. The liberated dust sticks to a sticky material that prevents the dust to rise again. The Canon EOS Rebel XTi along with a zoom lens kit will be available in the middle of September for a levelheaded price of $899.
The digital camcorders have offered the utmost flexibility, versatility and performance in the recent times for the enthusiastic photographers and videographers. The camcorder market is quite hot now as the leaders are plunging in with a great force with their high-tech and advanced camcorders. Earlier Sony was the sole leader of the said arena. The Sony’s HDR-UX1 AVCHD camcorder is now facing hard competition from other contenders. Canon has made a sound reputation in the camcorder market bi launching its consumer oriented HV10 camcorder, compact DC22 DVD camcorder and HDV camcorders XH G1 and XH A1. Panasonic also rolled out VDR-D400 DVD camcorder. We must not forget the world’s first DVD/HDD camcorder, Hitachi DZ-H303. So, what is the eventual result? (1) Tough market. (2) Stiff competition. (3) Reduces prices for consumers. (4) Emergence of a new market for camcorders. With more and more camcorders coming to the camcorder dome, we, the consumers can hope for slashing prices and pick up the best one for ourselves to whet our appetite to realize our inimitable creative goals.
