At the Photokina 2006, Olympus Japan will showcase its new three-dimensional compression molding process that offers approximately 2.0 to 2.5x compression of cypress wood. The company claims that the product will offer the same hardness as the ABS and polycarbonate materials.

It appears that the molding technologies used were developed for manufacturing of lens components and the wood can be made too thin to be used in digicam housing. Olympus will display a wooden digital camera body at the big event.
