The new and inexpensive technology could see the Field of view (FOV) in the camera increasing up to 151 degrees with all the images being distortion free.
The present view angle of 151 degrees is the best that anyone has ever achieved realizing that the mathematical upper limit is 180 degrees.
Although there are Fisheye lens where the FOV has been increased beyond 180 degrees but the images are distorted.
These new wide lens has been designed by the Korean company called Nanophotonics and will help in capturing a distortion free image of a very large area.
In contrast to the now used ‘Fisheye’ lenses the image and the view angle both can be improved.
The company presented there new lens in the December 1 publication of Applied optics, a publication of Optical society of America.
The lens is made from the inexpensive material and will cost a little more than $100.
It will be a boon for the security agencies as the increased view angle means more fool-proof security.
