The new imaging technology developed by the Edinburgh scientist Dr. Andy Harvey has aroused the interest of the Army who are at present testing the device.
The camcorder style machine has the ability to identify 30 times more color than the human eye , the army is interested because it will help them to detect camouflaged enemy and even landmines buried under the ground as it will be possible to detect the disturbance in grass. It is the first camera that allows so much detail. The medics say that this can help them in detecting cancers which are otherwise hard to detect.
The Heriot-Watt University received a aid of £800,000 from the deptt. of Trade and Industry and QinetiQ. With various medical and military usages being sited I think funding will not be the problem and soon the technology will be available.
