The news is that Hitachi is working on a hybrid DZHS500 DVD/HDD camcorder that will have the ability to record video both on DVD and the hard drive/ SD card.
You can burn your DVD and have your internal HDD free or vice versa you can record on DVD and then transfer the data to HDD or a SD card. This nullifies the requirement of PC.
