As an outcome of foreseeable move to HD, Canon has announced its plans to upgrade some of its camcorders with the very start of the new year. The Canon series of camcorders to receive an upgrade are the entry-level miniDV ZR series and the DC-line of DVD camcorders. Canon will not carry the Elura 100 anymore and there will be no replacement to the same.

The Canon ZR800, 830, and 850 will be the new replacement to the ZR-500, 600, and 700. All the new three models feature low resolution with the ZR800 and 830 boasting 680,000-pixel sensors while the ZR850 gets a bump to one megapixel sensor. All the three camcorders rock a 35x optical zoom and 2.7-inch widescreen LCD.

Canon has also dropped four new models in its DC line of DVD camcorders named DC50, DC210, DC220, and DC230 that will hit the stores in Feb/March. The big daddy, DC50, priced at $800, is a replacement to the DC40. It comes equipped with a 5-megapixel CCD, 10x zoom with optical image stabilization, and a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD. While the $500 tagged DC230 offers a whole megapixel, the DC210 and DC220 priced at $400 and $450 respectively take the things back to 680,000-pixel mark.
